Balse originated as an semi-annual techno club event, with origins in Tokyo, New York City, then migrated to Los Angeles.. Eventually evolved into an art and culture collaborative, with friends across the globe.

The story revolves around an imaginary persona Charles Balse, who navigates the world with hope of the next human. Through art, music, philosophy, and literature. It is curated by Yohei Abe, the current editor in chief. It is the belief that the ‘next human’ is within each one of us. We believe in humanity and possibilities. We are simply curious of how we were, are, and the next.

What is the word ‘Balse’?

‘Balse’ is the spell of destruction and rebirth, used at the pivotal moment in the animation film Castle in the Sky. It is the symbol of creation and destruction. It is the last resort to protect the castle. We see a message towards us humans and the delicate balance of nature.
