The Genesis Balse began in the strobe lights of Tokyo, New York, and Los Angeles as a semi-annual techno gathering. But over time, the rhythm changed. It evolved from a night into a journey—a global collaborative of friends exploring the intervals of art and culture.

The Search Our story follows the search of Charles Balse, an imaginary persona who navigates the modern landscape in pursuit of the ‘Next Human.’ Through the lens of art, music, philosophy, and literature, we look for what remains essential.

Curated by Editor-in-Chief Yohei Abe, Balse is built on a singular belief: the ‘Next Human’ is already within us. It is the realization of our own humanity and the infinite possibilities therein. We are students of how we were, who we are, and what we might become.

The Form Is it a blog? Perhaps. Is it a timeline? That, too. But more than anything, it is a witness to a life—messy, personal, and raw. It is an individual pursuit that aims for something global and universal. It is an education of the soul. It is a journey, and you are invited to walk it with us. The path will grow, with our vision, like a neo-Pompidou.

What is the word ‘Balse’?

‘Balse’ is the spell of destruction and rebirth, used at the pivotal moment in the animation film Castle in the Sky. It is the symbol of creation and destruction. It is the last resort to protect the castle. We see a message towards us humans and the delicate balance of nature.
