Yarn/Wire: Challenge to Difference /

Kentaro Ogasawara October 31, 2024

Vivaldi's Spring, "Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione" is an experiment in harmony and ingenuity. Yarn/Wire is a challenge of difference. They attempt to express themselves with various tools. Some tools used in daily life are also included. And they try to create a sensation that has never been felt before. This time, two people applied electric massagers touching a large drum. It was an experience that I had never experienced before. The performance was titled AUDITORY SCENES. Only the person there knows what kind of sensation it was. There were no familiar melodies or harmonies in classical music. You cannot hum along to them, but by seeing the tools used in daily life, you realize that they are right in front of you, like everyday life that passes by, even if you leave it alone, and that they become the driving force to discard ignorance. It is the flow of the Ganges. For those who are there and see it for the first time, it is a test of harmony and ideas. Yarn/Wire passes through the waves of the mind, and the thoughts that come to mind open up a new world. This breaks my shells and walls again, making my outlook more apparent. This is helpful as there are many concerts from November to December.

AUDITORY SCENES: ERIC WUBBELS + CLARA IANNOTTA

NEW YORK, NY

THE Dimenna Center for Classical Music, CARY HALL

November 1, 2024, 8:00PM

Yarn/Wire presents commissions from two composers fascinated with the nature of sound production and perception. Eric Wubbels’ Diagrams of the Ear is premiered in a new, extended version and finds Wubbels “thinking about hearing, thinking about listening, thinking about the physiology and the neurology and the psychology of listening but then treating that very much with just a sense of curiosity.” Clara Iannotta’s glass and stone is a multimedia exploration of the distinct sonic properties of physical materials.

PROGRAM:

Eric Wubbels - Diagrams of the Ear (Auditory Scene Analysis IV) (2023/24) [WORLD PREMIERE]+

Clara Iannotta - glass and stone (2024) [US PREMIERE]*
