People’s minds are transformed by The New York Philharmonic’s concert in the Park on 6.10.2026
As the music began, people’s consciousness seemed to be drawn into the sound. Saint-Saëns and Ravel’s Boléro filled the air, and you could see everyone there gradually being filled by the music itself.
On the grass lay bread, ham, and wine that people had brought with them. Above was the bright June sky of New York, and before us stood a massive orchestra. But as the performance went on, people forgot their food, the scenery, even themselves, and simply listened.
American families, couples, men and women who had come alone, children speaking Spanish — people from many different backgrounds gathered there and lost themselves and their sense of time in the same music. The children, especially, responded to the sound with complete naturalness.
The noise of cars on the nearby road. The sound of airplanes crossing the sky. Ordinary sounds that would usually distract us disappeared during the final Boléro. The huge orchestra gently enveloped us with tones as delicate as a music box, and when I looked up, countless fireflies were moving through the night.
The people gathered there were surrounded by the glow of countless fireflies and the sound of the New York Philharmonic, connected through music beyond family, romance, nationality, or language. The New York Philharmonic’s park concert was a place where music transformed human consciousness in a world without walls.
